Earlscliffe

– A letter from the Principal

“Welcome to Earlscliffe, to Folkestone, and indeed, to England!

My wife Julie and I founded the school in 2012 and it has grown steadily ever since. We retain that family atmosphere, with about 110 sixth form boarders living in our Houses which form an ‘in-town campus’ a short walk from the sea and still less than an hour from central London by train.

We are an international community of over 30 nationalities, with students aiming for top UK university entry…

Most take A-levels, but we also offer a pre A-level course, a Diploma in Business & Management, and a Foundation Year.

The average number of students in any class is eight; each A-level subject is allocated 30% more teaching time than you ordinarily find in most schools and each student is monitored closely through our weekly TRaC™ testing. We offer a full range of subjects.

We encourage students to see new things as opportunities rather than threats and invite them to participate in our Model United Nations, Singing Club, Public Speaking Society, UNESCO Club, Community Service projects, and sports teams to name but a few, as they develop into fulfilled and highly-skilled adults making meaningful contributions to global society.

An Earlscliffe education is ‘personalised’. Please come and see for yourselves!”

About
Earlscliffe

Earlscliffe is a ‘boutique’ day and boarding school in Folkestone, Kent, on the British heritage coast. The school has gained an international reputation for its ‘gold-standard’ A-level programme and the quality of its university pathways provision. In its recent Ofsted inspection in June 2017, Earlscliffe was rated ‘Outstanding’ in all six areas.

Earlscliffe enrols students aged 15 to 19 from all nationalities. The school provides a personalised education experience in a family-style environment. Staff at Earlscliffe draw on teaching methods inspired by Oxbridge colleges, top schools, and other world-leading universities.

The school’s enriching environment emphasises academic rigour while offering high levels of pastoral care. Students thrive in a close-knit and safe community where they are encouraged to achieve their highest academic goals. Once students begin their university applications, every applicant benefits from one-to-one support with the Director, Tim Fish, who has worked in teaching and leadership roles at well-known international schools for over thirty years. Students achieve outstanding exam results and win places at competitive universities, such as Durham, St Andrews, University of the Arts, London, and UCL, Imperial, Warwick, and even Stanford.

Earlscliffe Summer and Easter

Earlscliffe also runs Summer and Easter programmes in term-time holidays. These holiday programmes offer both serious study and fun activities. Students enjoy engaging academic study combined with exciting social activities and excursions that make for an unforgettable experience.

During their stay, students live on the Earlscliffe campus, a collection of recently renovated Victorian and Edwardian buildings.

Rochester Independent College

– A letter from the Principal

“Rochester Independent College was founded in 1984 as a specialist Maths and Sciences focused sixth form. The development I’ve seen since joining the team in 1997 has been, like the education so many of our former students remember, colourful and vibrant. There’s now an equal emphasis in the curriculum on the Arts. Our first Year 7 students joined in 2007.

Rochester is a place for individuals, a real alternative to traditional schools…”

There’s no uniform and everybody is on first name terms. Although atmospherically relaxed, there’s an emphasis on rigorous study and academic achievement without unnecessary pressure. This successfully distinctive environment is a natural stepping-stone between school and university.

The college occupies a one-of-a-kind urban campus. Listed buildings are linked by award-winning wildlife gardens, creating a special sense of place in which to live, study and work.

Rochester joined Dukes in 2016 and it’s a fit that works. Dukes respects our existing culture, invests in facilities and staffing, and promotes the college and its ethos enthusiastically. As we grow, we’re maintaining together a focus on what makes Rochester special: an informal and creative environment, a firm belief that with hard work everyone is capable of exam success, and a focus on the individual needs of every student who comes to us.”

About
Rochester Independent College

Rochester Independent College focuses on the highest levels of academic achievement while retaining a creative buzz.

Rochester’s Mathematics, Science, English Literature, and Film Studies teaching have all won awards from The Good Schools Guide in recent years who also say: “It would be hard to find better provision for an artist.”

Located in Kent, the school occupies a historically distinctive site. Listed Georgian buildings are linked by award-winning wildlife gardens, creating a unique sense of place in which to live, work, and study. The campus is as unique as the school itself, with an underground theatre space, an outdoor classroom shaped like an igloo, and steel sculptural musical gates that form a landmark piece of public art. All boarding is on-site, in single rooms, some with ensuite facilities.

Rochester Independent College welcomes day students from the age of 11 and boarders from 15.
