Michéal has been the principal of Bruce College for over twenty-three years. He has a long and distinguished history of working successfully in education management. He is highly skilled in general management, teamwork, critical thinking, and daily operations, and staff development.
Michéal is a graduate of Trinity College and Dublin Technological University. He has also postgraduate of University of Limerick. He is member of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors Ireland.
During his time as principal of Bruce College the school has become one of Ireland’s top performing private independent schools. Furthermore, it has become renowned for its excellence in academic achievement. The class of 2023 achieved outstanding results. In the highest grades bracket, over 40% of Bruce College students achieved 550 points or higher, compared to a CAO applicant national average for that year of 13.2%. This was over three times the national average.
Under Micheál’s stewardship and management Bruce college has become the largest private independent school in Munster and provider of seasonal revision courses outside of Dublin.
On a daily basis Michéal spends a lot of time meeting and speaking with students, parents and staff. As the principal and a Career Guidance Counsellor he is directly involved in the pastoral welfare of all his students.
Michéal is a a keen golfer and a past Captain and President of Kinsale Golf Club. He has also represented the club in competition at national and regional level.
A favoured Irish mantra for Michéal is “Mol an òige agus tiocfaidh sì.” This translates to “Praise the young and they will flourish”.
