Sylvia’s interest in the world of art was awakened as a child by her family’s love of visiting museums; her mother loved to paint and was a copyist at the Prado. When it came to choosing a university degree, it was clear to her that she wanted to study History of Art and become a teacher. After completing a Master’s Degree in Teaching, with a specialisation in Geography and History, she lived for a while in Bristol (UK) and on her return to Spain started up a Cambridge English Preparation Centre, which she ran until she became part of the management team of a school in Madrid. During that time, Sylvia led the school’s multilingual project and was the coordinator of the American Dual Diploma and the IB Diploma Program. In 2022, family reasons brought her back to Valladolid and since then she has been Head of Secondary and Baccalaureate at Colegio Internacional de Valladolid. Now she is excited to take on the challenge of leading this Dukes’ family school – which she already considers her home- with the start of the new school year.
Sylvia’s eagerness to learn has never disappeared. In recent years, she has broadened her training with a Master’s degree in Educational Innovation, a double MBA & Master’s degree in Schools Management and a Manage Mentor course at Harvard University, among others. True to her principles, she is interested in helping students bring out the best version of themselves and she has specialised in teaching students with high abilities.
Among her hobbies, she enjoys spending time with her family and taking her Labrador Retriever for a walk. She plays the piano, likes reading crime novels and loves to write, something which led her to win a writing prize in her youth. One of her favourite quotes is: ‘If you improve yourself, you improve the world,’ so she always tries to pass on this desire of improvement to her students.
