Earlscliffe is a 'boutique' day and boarding school in Folkestone, Kent, on the British heritage coast. The school has gained an international reputation for its ‘gold-standard’ A-level programme and the quality of its university pathways provision. Alongside its traditional two-year A-level programme, Earlscliffe offers an International Transition Year (ITY), a Foundation Year, and a Diploma in Business Management.
In its recent Ofsted inspection in June 2017, Earlscliffe was rated ‘Outstanding’ in all six areas.
Earlscliffe enrols students aged 15 to 19 from all nationalities. The school provides a personalised education experience in a family-style environment, where class sizes are kept to an average of eight students and the total number of students at around 100. Staff at Earlscliffe draw on teaching methods inspired by Oxbridge colleges, top schools, and other world-leading universities.
The school’s enriching environment emphasises academic rigour while offering high levels of pastoral care. Students thrive in a closely-knit and safe community where they are encouraged to achieve their highest academic goals. Through the school’s unique TRaC™ monitoring, students sit weekly tests that enable a transparent assessment of their performance and help students identify any weaknesses that can be addressed during individual coaching sessions.
Once students begin their university applications, every applicant benefits from one-to-one support with the Director, Tim Fish, who has worked in teaching and leadership roles at well-known international schools for over thirty years. Students achieve outstanding exam results and win places at competitive universities, such as Durham, St Andrews, University of the Arts, London, and UCL, Imperial, Warwick, and even Stanford.
The school campus is comprised of historic Victorian and Edwardian buildings in Folkestone’s desirable West End, only a short walk from the famous promenade and the vibrant town centre.
