Philippa has been head of Bassett House since 2013 and came to the school after five years as head of Eaton House The Manor Pre-Prep, in Clapham. She has wide experience of teaching in boarding, single-sex and co-educational schools where she helped prepare children for 7+, 8+, 11+ and 13+ examinations. Philippa’s teaching qualification is in secondary English. Although she has taught every primary subject from Year 3 upwards, she specialised in preparing children for 11+ English and 13+ English and history examinations. helping children to gain academic scholarships to the top senior schools in the country.
Although Philippa is passionate about education, her first career was in the army where she honed her leadership skills and worked in logistics in Norway, Germany, and the UK.
Philippa has an MA in history and archaeology and in her spare time loves to explore historical sites around the world. She also likes to challenge herself and has trekked to the basecamps of the world’s three highest mountains in Nepal and Pakistan and has climbed Kilimanjaro.
Bassett House children and staff have the benefit of having one of Philippa’s three chocolate Labradors in school and her other family members include a highly supportive husband, two adult children, both of whom were taught in independent schools and a gorgeous granddaughter.
