About
The British School of Lisbon
The British School of Lisbon (BSL) was founded in 2019 and currently educates students from Nursery through to Year 10. In September 2024, BSL opened its second campus, BSL Restelo, marking a significant milestone in the school’s development. This expansion firmly established BSL as a leading school in Lisbon and will enable the school to grow through to Year 13.
The original BSL Cais do Sodré Campus serves students from Nursery to Year 5 and is now approaching maturity in terms of enrolment and staffing. The BSL Restelo Campus caters for students from Year 6 upwards and is growing in a carefully planned and sustainable way, with new year groups added annually. The first Year 11 cohort will begin in September 2026.
As part of our Middle School model, students transition to the Restelo Campus in Year 6. This approach supports the early development of key social, emotional and organisational skills, encourages exploration across a broad and balanced curriculum and provides a stimulating and appropriately challenging learning environment. From Year 6, students benefit from specialist subject teaching, laying strong foundations for future academic success.
BSL delivers the English National Curriculum with the ambition of matching the standards of the UK’s top independent schools. Students in Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11) are prepared for I/GCSE examinations, while in Key Stage 5 (Years 12 and 13) the school will offer an enhanced AS Level and A Level programme.
BSL’s mission is to be a world-leading school. We are proudly ambitious in the education we provide, ensuring that students thrive academically, personally and socially. Every child at BSL is valued as an individual and we strive to instil not only a love of learning, but also the values and experiences that will stay with our students throughout their lives.
