It is National Poetry Day today, which marks the beginning of Poetry Together!
To celebrate this exciting day, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall has recorded a recital of Night Mail by WH Auden in support of #PoetryTogether2020.
Gyles Brandreth, who founded the initiative together with Dukes, spoke to LBC about the value of poetry, and how reading and writing poems has helped many people through the recent lockdown.
Poetry Together is an initiative designed to unite young and old over the joy of reciting poetry by heart. In 2019, its inaugural year over 200 schools and care homes registered to take part. They recited their favourite rhymes at poetry tea parties, sharing poems, tea, and cake. This year, the campaign has moved online to encourage schools and care homes to connect virtually, and share recordings of their recitals or set up video calls. Then, they can share their recordings with the hashtag #PoetryTogether2020 on social media to spread the joy even further!Find out more about Poetry Together
