Yvonne joined the Institute of Education as Principal in 2018 and has overseen the strategic development and growth of the school over the last five years. During her early career Yvonne taught English and Classics but it is as an Irish language teacher that she is best known having published 37 market leading Irish language textbooks over the last 25 years. During her teaching career Yvonne worked as a Leaving Certificate examiner and oral examiner for the State Examinations Commission. She also lectured and mentored graduates on the Trinity College teacher training Masters Programme.
Yvonne graduated from University College Dublin with a degree in Irish and English and she continued her passion for learning with Religious Studies and Journalism qualifications. She was awarded a first class honours Masters of Science degree in Educational Management and Leadership from Dublin City University in 2004. Yvonne believes that a passion for lifelong learning and education is the greatest gift that we can bestow on students.
During her teaching career Yvonne has led initiatives that have changed the lives of students. In association with the Nyumbani Home for orphaned children in Kenya, she established a programme that raised funds to build homes for the children in the orphanage and in the slums outside Nirobi. Yvonne also established and managed a programme with the Central Remedial Clinic in Dublin that brought able bodied and disabled student together. Empowering students to take ownership of learning is an important part of their educational journey.
Yvonne leads a team of passionate and dedicated educationalists who are driven by a desire to ensure that every student is provided with the best educational experience. At The Institute of Education we foster a culture of respect and we view every student through a holistic lens.
