Bassett House School

Welcome to Bassett House School. We are a leading co-ed prep school for boys and girls aged 2-11 in Notting Hill, West London, known for its nurturing and inclusive ethos.

I’ve yet to meet a child who isn’t naturally curious. Sometimes this instinct lies dormant, but it’s always there. Our job is to develop this curiosity so it becomes a lifelong love of learning.

We achieve this through a regime of creativity, encouragement, and reward; but first, we need to make sure every child feels safe, secure, and welcome. I would say Bassett House School’s outstanding characteristic is its warm and nurturing atmosphere.

I believe a teacher’s enthusiasm is infectious, and can safely say we’re not lacking in that department at Bassett. Through an enticing mix of lessons and activities, we inspire all our pupils to be inquisitive about the world and to recognise its endless possibilities.

I would like to invite you to visit Bassett House, where you can meet me and some of the teachers but, most importantly, see the children in action: their confidence and enthusiasm is something you need to experience for yourself.

About
Bassett House School

Bassett House School was founded in 1947 by Sylvia Rentoul. What began as a small school for only six pupils, over the years grew into a happy and vibrant community of around 200 children, across eight year groups.

Until this day, the school’s outstanding results repeatedly show that all children are inspired to be the best that they can be, regardless of their ability.

The school remains a house school, offering a warm, home-from-home environment that is deeply cherished. The teaching team is genuinely committed and works closely together to provide the best possible experience for all Bassett pupils.

Children at Bassett House benefit from an excellent support system that enables them to grow their confidence and build long lasting relationships.

The school has several systems in place that help pupils settle in, voice their problems, or encourage them to discover their interests and talents. The buddy system, the school’s different houses, and weekly ‘communication stations’ are only some of the wonderful aspects of life at Bassett.

Music, Drama, and excursions add diversity to the school day.

“The pastoral care is excellent too – there are off-timetable enrichment sessions, an in-house life coach and peace lilies (which, according to NASA, purify the air) placed in every classroom.”

Orchard House School

It is a privilege to lead Orchard House School, a thriving and joyful community in the heart of West London. As one of the area’s leading prep schools, we are proud of our reputation not only for outstanding academic results, but also for nurturing the unique talents of every child.

At Orchard House, children are at the centre of everything we do. Small classes, dedicated teachers and an award-winning approach to pastoral care ensure that every pupil feels safe, happy and valued. We know that children learn best when they feel safe and engaged, and our aim is always to provide an environment where they can flourish.

We are proud to be a co-educational school, welcoming boys and girls from the ages of 3 to 11. Our bespoke curriculum, The Learning Orchard, combined with our expert approach to the 11+, equips pupils to move on to leading senior schools in London and beyond. Each year, many of our children achieve scholarships in academics, sport, music, drama, art and chess. Yet what matters most is that every pupil finds the school that is right for them, where they will continue to thrive.

As we prepare our pupils for an ever-changing world, we focus not only on outstanding teaching and learning but also on our values that underpin true success: Excellence, Honesty and Kindness. We want our children to develop a love of learning, an appreciation of hard work, and a sense of responsibility for others. Alongside this, our rich programme of enrichment opportunities helps them discover new skills and passions that will support them throughout their lives.

Above all, Orchard House is a community. Pupils, parents and staff come together to create a warm and caring environment where achievement and enjoyment go hand in hand. There is plenty of laughter alongside the hard work, and a genuine spirit of support that extends well beyond the classroom.

This is an exciting moment in Orchard House’s story, and I warmly invite you to visit us to experience the energy, warmth and ambition of our school for yourself.

About
Orchard House School

Orchard House School was founded in 1993 with 65 pupils.

Today, there are approximately 300 pupils and 47 teaching staff, allowing each child a great deal of individual attention. It is very rare there are more than 20 pupils in any class, and in the early years there are three teaching adults in attendance. Small group and 1:1 sessions are commonplace.

Teachers take lunch with the children and the extensive extra-curricular activities allow teachers and pupils to interact in a more informal atmosphere.

Children blossom when they feel secure, happy and valued.

Each child has a Pupil Pastoral Plan where they can note any private worries so that teachers may monitor their happiness and well-being. Our buddy system helps newcomers through their early days, and we encourage older children to mentor younger pupils, instilling a sense of responsibility.

The school’s House system encourages teamwork and a competitive spirit, allowing children to celebrate their own success as well as the achievements of others.

Orchard House welcomes boys and girls to its vibrant community of creative thinkers.

“One pupil reports that Orchard House […] is truly ‘perfect’. Leavers head on to Hampton, Godolphin & Latymer and Kew House having enjoyed excellent teaching (staff wellbeing is taken very seriously – they have their own clubs including ultimate frisbee), sporting prowess – Year 6 swimmers reached the IAPS final this year – and clubs galore.”

Prospect House School

Welcome to Prospect House.

Every child’s potential develops more readily when they feel safe, valued and happy. I am delighted our pupils thrive in the warm atmosphere of Prospect House where humour and laughter go hand in hand with serious study.

Years of teaching have taught me that every child is great at something.

At Prospect House we celebrate these strengths, encouraging children to excel. Every small success leads to greater confidence and self-belief.

We have high academic expectations for all of our pupils and place great value on effort, ensuring that they have the necessary tools to succeed.

A notable percentage of our pupils gain scholarships. All go on to prestigious senior schools armed with the enthusiasm and self-confidence which is the hallmark of a Prospect House pupil.

I can honestly say our children love coming to school and I warmly invite you to come and meet me, my team, and our pupils.

About
Prospect House School

Prospect House School was formerly a family home and retains a happy, welcoming atmosphere, starting at the front door where the Headmaster or a senior staff member greets each child by name every morning.

Currently, there are approximately 315 pupils, and a staff ratio of 1:7 allows each child a great deal of individual attention. In the early years, there are three teaching adults in each class, and higher up the school small sets for Maths and English allow very focused teaching. Additional small group and 1:1 sessions are commonplace.

The extensive extra-curricular activities allow teachers and pupils to interact in a more informal atmosphere outside of the classroom. Bonds between staff and children are strong.

Prospect House School is a place where every child feels valued and gains the confidence to fly.

No two children are the same and every child learns differently.

Accordingly, everyone at Prospect House embraces different teaching methods, including Montessori for younger children. The freedom to refine and utilise different methods, combined with small class sizes, allows the school to tailor teaching approaches to each individual child. Progress is closely monitored, and each child has an individual Pupil Plan to ensure every need is met.

“Prospect House is a school that fosters happiness and respects individuality. After almost five years as a parent here, I have witnessed how the PHS ethos translates beautifully into confident children who enjoy learning and achieve their very best. This school is a gem and I cherish it as much as my two sons.”
