Broomwood Pre-Prep and Little Broomwood

Broomwood Pre-Prep has that incredible mix you find in all great schools: dedicated staff, an inspiring curriculum; beautiful buildings with excellent facilities. Children in our pre-school Little Broomwood benefit from our indoor and outdoor classrooms, before moving seamlessly into the pre-prep.  Our curriculum ensures a proper foundation, inspiring a love of learning and above all, producing happy resilient children equipped to #BeYourBEST.

Added to this we have innovative and specialist teachers, a myriad of opportunities for children to try new things, a real sense of community and outstanding pastoral care.  The Pre-Prep is filled with the constant buzz of laughter and enthusiasm that comes from children who truly enjoy coming to school. In all this, our goal is to equip children with skills for life, not just the next school. We prepare children for the next stage of their education – whether that’s at 7+ to other schools or within Broomwood – either to Broomwood Prep – Girls or Broomwood Prep – Boys.

About
Broomwood Pre-Prep and Little Broomwood

Broomwood Pre-Prep is a school for girls and boys aged 3-7 and the first stage of a wonderful prep education with Broomwood through to 13. Times change, but our school’s philosophy has never wavered: if a child is happy, they will learn and thrive.

We offer a stimulating, happy and well-rounded education with small class sizes, high teacher/pupil ratios and specialist subject teaching in music and sport.  Our pupils love coming to school.

Thematic learning hooks them in to exciting topics; Maths Mastery ensures that every child has a fundamental grasp of number to give them the problem solving skills that are so critical in life. Our focus on a ‘growth mindset’, ensures that every child knows that learning is a process and it’s OK not to get everything right first time.

In the increasingly automated world that our children will face in the years to come, the human skills and values they learn at Broomwood will matter more than ever. Things like critical thinking, confidence, self-discipline, resilience, organisation, teamwork, creativity, a sense of duty and responsibility; good manners, courtesy and tolerance of others.

Our School Motto exemplifies all that we believe about education:

BeYourBEST

We are academically ambitious and believe in hard work too, and the satisfaction and sense of achievement that it brings; but never to the exclusion of happiness and of fun, or of a child’s right to be a child.

Eaton House Schools

Throughout my career, I have been wholly committed to ensuring that children get the very best educational experiences possible. I want them to love coming to school and to love learning. It is the most enormous privilege to be able make a positive impact on them as they lay foundations, develop values and form meaningful friendships that will set them up for the next stage in their lives. That drive, to give children at Eaton House Schools the most wonderful prep school years, will guide and motivate my decisions.

Reflecting on my career and philosophy, I am always looking for ways in which children can glimpse what the wider world can offer them. It is so important that the children hear from people who have ‘made a difference’ so that the early seeds of ‘I can make a difference’ begin to take root. I have enjoyed forming excellent, positive relationships with neighbouring primary schools whether by inviting the children to some events, allowing them to use facilities for their sports days or for older pupils to spend time with the children, reading, doing sports or helping with maths, as part of their leadership programme.

In my previous role as Head of Newton Prep, I hosted, in liaison with a local state primary school Head, a conference: ‘Empowering Women in Educational Leadership.’ Women from both sectors joined us to explore the theme of leadership. Nicky Morgan, then Secretary State for Education attended, as did Dame Doreen Lawrence and Shami Chakrabarti. Another example of meaningful collaboration with the state sector was when the Dalai Lama and Bishop Rowan Williams came to Newton Prep as part of the ‘Inspiring Dialogue’ conference. Children from a range of schools came to share what they believed they wanted their world to look like.

I am ambitious for the children at Eaton House Schools. I want them to ‘think big’ and take away some fantastic experiences from their prep school days. I strongly support the performing arts and what this can bring into children’s lives. I believe we need to be proud of the breadth and depth of the experiences our children can enjoy at school.

Outside school, I have recently been appointed a Governor at Brighton College. The theatre, reading and music give me great pleasure and I recently embarked on learning to play the piano – a joyful experience and an excellent reminder of what it feels like to be a ‘learner’.

About
Eaton House Schools

Eaton House Schools share a common promise – the promise of an outstanding education for your child based on a 125 year heritage of academic excellence and founded on a caring culture of wellbeing that allows children to blossom both academically and emotionally on a non-selective entry at 4+.

Pupils in both Belgravia and Clapham receive a range of scholarships and attend many prestigious schools, including Westminster, St Paul’s School, Dulwich College, James Allen’s Girls’ School (JAGS), Charterhouse, Winchester, Wycombe Abbey and Eton.

We have an unashamedly aspirational culture –whether in academics, music, sport, drama or any other endeavour – where there is a place for every single child to shine. All Eaton House Schools’ children are immersed in a rich world of creativity, extra-curricular clubs, trips and value-added extras that are designed to support their learning and to help them to achieve their full potential.

Hampton Court House School

Hampton Court House is a place of magic, wonder and inspiration, where the children are at the heart of everything we do. As Head, I am unashamedly and unapologetically idealistic about the power of education to transform young people, and HCH is the perfect environment for this to happen. Walking through the gates at HCH transports our children to a special place where they can thrive and flourish, where they are respected and valued as independent and autonomous individuals, and where they are known and deeply cared for by every member of staff. Our children are empowered, enabled, and treasured.

Our ethos and vision focuses on sparking creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking through an exciting and progressive curriculum facilitated by passionate subject specialists who have chosen to teach because they love their subject and are lifelong learners in themselves, but also because they wish to share this knowledge with young people. As well as being a place that buzzes with scholarship and academic enquiry, we also celebrate experiential learning and all of the so-called ‘soft-skills’ learned through the performing and expressive arts, sport, and activities where our children can be challenged outside of their comfort zone, celebrated for their intrinsic passions and skills, and where they can learn so much about who they are and what makes them tick.

Most importantly, however, HCH prioritises the mental health and wellbeing of each and every member of our community; pastoral care is the golden thread that runs through everything we do. Our children are nourished and nurtured as we help them navigate their way through developing their sense of self. Our guiding principles are kindness, respect and compassion for others and this is reflected in our ‘inner curriculum’ based on empathy, emotional literacy, and emotional intelligence. We want our children to be happy, confident, and understand themselves, but also understand and care for those around them. It is this combination that will help them make the world a better place.

There are so many other attributes that make HCH such a special school, whether that is our French immersion programme and focus on languages, ballet provision, informal dress code, late Sixth Form start, or how all staff are referred to by their first name. Our beautiful buildings and garden provide our students with the physical space to run, play, imagine and enjoy the freedom and other wondrous aspects of being young. HCH is unique and distinct, and we are proud to be so because we know how motivating, inspiring and nurturing this is for the young people in our care and how it helps them achieve their highest potential.

I cannot wait to welcome you to the school so you can see the magic, vibrancy, and collective joy of HCH first-hand.

It is important to us that children enjoy being here and look forward to coming to school. We wish to lay the foundations of a lifelong love of learning.

We believe that children need some (guided) freedom in order to develop their own style with taste and discretion. Pupils and staff have mutual respect for each other. The staff, including the Principal, are addressed by their first names. Whilst there is a dress code, there is no uniform.

About
Hampton Court House School

Hampton Court House is an ‘all through’ school teaching pupils aged 2–18. Some students choose to move on after 11+ in Year 6 or through Common Entrance or Scholarship papers in Year 8. But most pupils elect to stay on to GCSE in Year 11 and A-levels in the sixth form.

The Nursery and Reception classes provide a highly stimulating and welcoming environment for children to learn through interaction with each other and adults. They learn through play with songs and games and through the enthusiasm of their teachers.

Children hear spoken French around them each day, which prepares them for the Lower Years (Years 1–4) which is a fully bilingual environment. After this, in Year 6, all pupils sit internal 11+ examinations, and 13+ examinations in Year 8 in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Geography, French, Spanish, Mandarin, and Latin. In the Upper Years, students will make their own decisions that will shape their future and can select specialisms from a wide range of subjects.

Hampton Court is a co-educational all-through school.

Broomfield House School

A very warm welcome to Broomfield House School.
Built in 1876, Broomfield is a wonderful school in every sense. We are constantly building on our rich history, through a forward-thinking approach to our curriculum. Our entrepreneurial mindset and authentic, holistic approach to teaching puts children at the very heart of all that we do. Broomfield is the oldest private school in Kew with a focus on preparing children for the ever changing social, cultural, political, economic and futuristic landscape.

We are a small school, but punch well above our weight in all areas of school life. Despite being non- selective, academically, year after year we achieve excellent results, not only at 11+ but across the entire school. We celebrate neurodiversity with the belief that every child, no matter their starting point, can achieve excellent academic results.

We pride ourselves on providing individualised learning enhancement for every child, ensuring the right amount of challenge and support, whenever it is needed, throughout their journey with us. Our 2022 ISI inspection highlighted the excellent educational experience that we provide and
awarded us excellent in all areas, both in respect of pupils’ academic and other achievements and their personal development.
We are a family school in every sense. Generations of local families have trusted the school to provide an academically excellent and pastorally nurturing early years and prep school education for their boys and girls from the age of 3 up to 11. The school has numerous pupils whose parents, and even grandparents attended Broomfield themselves. The school is a friendly and inclusive academic family and we welcome pupils and their parents from all over the world, maintaining close and long- lasting relationships with many of them when they move on to other countries and schools.

Our values: Curiosity, Creativity, Courage and Kindness, were born out of consultation with the children. The children articulated ways in which they can demonstrate the values each day through their actions, and these are written in our Code of Conduct. On a daily basis it is a joy to see the children encourage each other to be curious in their learning, being creative when problem-solving, courageous when tackling new things and, above all, being kind, and to recognise the kindness of others.

I would be delighted to welcome you to Broomfield, to give you a personalised tour and to learn more about you and your family.

About
Broomfield House School

Broomfield House School is Kew’s oldest private school. The first printed reference to the school was in the Richmond & Twickenham Times on 29th January 1876 and records allow us to trace lineage back to the Head Teacher, Miss Sara Eliza Mead (1830 – 1918) who was leading the school at that time. Miss Mead gave the school its motto, Lo Here is Fellowship.

Since then, the school has become a feature of the community. The school’s original building, Broomfield House, is one of the largest Victorian houses in the village. Broomfield House now provides welcoming accommodation for our Years 4, 5 and 6 classes, a practical science room; the Green Room, new study rooms for one-to-one and small group teaching, as well as a dedicated computer room, staff room and school office.

The school welcomes children from 3 – 11. It is also partnered with two wonderful local nursery schools. In 2007, Broomfield took ownership of Kew’s oldest Montessori School, Kew Montessori, based at St Luke’s House, five minutes’ walk away on Sandycombe Road in Kew – a nursery that Ofsted judged ‘Outstanding’ in September 2016. In 2014, St Margaret’s Montessori in Twickenham also joined, so that children from age two have a clear pathway into a leading school.

Broomfield is a co-educational school in the heart of Kew.

Eaton Square Prep School

– A letter from the Principal

“I am delighted to have been given the opportunity of introducing you to Eaton Square School. Almost 40 years ago we opened our doors to our first class of boys and girls when we were situated in St. Peter’s Church, Eaton Square.

At Eaton Square we passionately believe that each and every child has the capacity to excel. All of the boys and girls are given the opportunity to flourish, be it in a single subject area or across the range of curriculum areas they are introduced to should they so wish. There are no barriers to the students being given the opportunity to do their very best within the warm, supportive and caring environment which encompasses the school…”

Our vibrant Nursery Schools feed into the thriving and flourishing Reception classes of our Prep. This brings a feeling of continuity, togetherness and family into all areas of school life; and in doing so helps children feel safe and happy at all times – a goal we share with all parents.

In 2018, Eaton Square became a part of the Dukes family and it is quite fitting that this union was made. The Dukes approach and philosophy is closely aligned to our own and the support which they have given, and continue to give, allows the school at all levels to grow and improve accordingly, whilst at no time affecting who we are.

It has been an amazing journey for the school during the last 40 years and the future is no less exciting.”

About
Eaton Square Prep School

At Eaton Square, we ignite a passion for learning within all pupils, exposing them to a broad curriculum which enables them to explore their individual talents and interests.

Our vibrant Nursery Schools feed into the thriving and flourishing Reception classes of our Prep. This brings a feeling of continuity, togetherness and family into all areas of school life; and in doing so helps children feel safe and happy at all times – a goal we share with all parents.

Children are afforded every opportunity to discover who they are and we encourage them to engage with their future and understand the place they will take in the world. High on the agenda is our presentation and public speaking programme (impressively, we are a TedX accredited School); climate change initiatives (in 2022 we achieved the prestigious ‘Green Flag’ official Eco Schools status); and a commitment to cultural diversity and inclusion (as demonstrated in our being named in the Top 3 Schools for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion by the Independent Schools Association).

Excellent academic standards are reached by exposing the children to a range of specialist teaching staff, each a champion in their subject. It is no wonder that our 11+ pupils go onto many of the UK’s best senior schools – day and boarding. With streamed lessons for Mathematics and English from Year 1 onwards, we are able to stretch and challenge each and every child.

A strong focus on pastoral care creates a ‘home from home’ feeling for all; at whatever stage you join us. We warmly invite you to visit us so you can experience this first-hand.

Warmly welcoming children into a world of learning and guiding them to make their next steps.

Heathside School Hampstead

A message from the Head

“I’m delighted to welcome you to view a glimpse of Heathside on this page. Anyone who visits Heathside will tell you it is a special place.

Our independent, happy, friendly, and academic school is known among the local community for putting children at the heart of everything we do. The school is set in historic buildings in the heart of Hampstead, a few minutes’ walk from Hampstead Heath, where the children play at lunchtimes….”

Heathside maintains an informal atmosphere while fostering a high level of individual responsibility and self-motivation. We encourage the development of the whole person and, as a result, Heathside is a relaxed and happy place and academic standards are high.

Heathside has been providing child-centred education for more than 25 years. We joined the Dukes family in 2019, and are delighted to gain from the added support and to find ourselves amongst a wider team of fellow schools. I’m so excited for the future of Heathside – please do take a look at our website or, even better, come visit us!”

About
Heathside School Hampstead

Founded more than 25 years ago, Heathside School has built a reputation as an environment where children spend their time happy and fulfilled.

Full advantage has always been taken of the local surroundings, with ‘Heath’ being a timetabled part of the curriculum.

The school is home to dedicated teachers who focus on keeping childhood special, while delivering a rich academic curriculum and preparing children to go on to leading London senior schools.

Our Ethos

The vision at Heathside is to empower students to acquire, demonstrate, articulate and value knowledge and skills that will support them, as independent lifelong learners, to make a positive difference to the world they will inherit. Our three core values are:

Knowledge

Confidently rowing away from the tide, this is knowledge the Heathside way. We offer children a genuinely unique learning experience, from being on first-name terms with one another to ditching restrictive uniform, from welcoming dogs to never putting an age limit on play – we are proud to teach children differently.

Nature

The Heath is an extension of our school and one of our most cherished teachers. Whether it’s welly boot shelves in the halls, ducklings in the classroom, Forest School on the Heath or our bid to ban single-use plastic, our children learn to respect and thrive within the natural world.

Nurture

We believe in raising children who value empathy and compassion, who treat one another with generosity and respect. Our teaching is firm but kind, patient but with clear boundaries. At Heathside, we’re a family. Explore our website to learn more about our unique approach to education, our nurturing community, and our commitment to providing an exceptional learning journey for every child at Heathside School Hampstead.
