Devonshire House Preparatory School

Letter from the Head:

Devonshire House is a place where families come together for their children’s most formative years. The School’s commitment is to outstanding care and education, to help discover, inspire and develop pupils’ talents and to support them throughout their years at the School and in their move to their next schools. The School aims to create adaptable and creative minds, for a changing world. It is a busy London School where we seek to provide a wealth of opportunities, both academic and extra curricular to help to inspire and encourage even the youngest of learners. We look forward to being given the opportunity to welcome you to Devonshire House to see our school and to get to know more about what we feel is a very special pace.

About the school:

Devonshire House provides an outstanding education from nursery age through to entry to Senior Schools. Its staff nurture and care for the children throughout their time at the School. It is situated in the centre of Hampstead, has fine premises, with spacious grounds, two onsite AstroTurfs and walled gardens with a Forest school .

Children can join the School’s Nursery, The Oak Tree Nursery, (ages 2½ – 3½), in Pre-Reception or Reception and at later stages, where vacancies arise.

Devonshire House has exceptional results, with places gained at most competitive London day schools and boarding schools throughout the UK.

At Devonshire House pupils learn how to work hard for their own achievements and to work with others with commitment, understanding and co-operation. They learn many things – traditional and innovative – and above all they learn how to grow their talents and how they may want to apply them in their lives. The School seeks to inspire not only a love of learning, but a love of thinking for oneself and the strength and resilience to do so, to make the most of life and to help others along this journey.

“Head Stephanie Piper has a cracking sense of humour, but don’t let the informal vibe fool you. The Devonshire House gang are the brightest of buttons, bagging places at some of London’s most competitive senior schools. DH is spread over three Victorian redbricks just off Hampstead High Street, and there’s a cosmopolitan vibe to match – with lengthy waiting lists too. Energy is expended at Lords, the Saracens’ training ground or the much- envied running club on Hampstead Heath. Last year, they raised enough money to build a staff room for their link school in Rwanda. They’re chuffed with their Green Flag eco credentials too – so much so that there are plans for a Forest School. Last term’s performance of ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ was a total show stopper – and, yup, they had ‘real’ rain.”
