Radnor House Prep School

– A letter from the Head

Hello, I am delighted to introduce myself as Head of the new Radnor House Prep School, opening in September 2023. Having lived and worked in Richmond and Twickenham for over 20 years, I am very aware of the excellent reputation of Radnor House senior school. I am so excited to be given this opportunity and I look forward to working closely with parents, children, and the wider Dukes community to build upon Radnor’s established success…

I am very proud to be taking the school forward into its next chapter as a prep school for girls and boys aged 2-11. Education should provide the best preparation for next steps into senior school and life beyond, and in my view children should receive an education based on encouragement rather than pressure. The very best results come from a broad base, an interesting and challenging curriculum, and a strong and supportive network of parents, pupils and school.

We have the chance to create something new and exciting at Radnor House Prep School. But please be assured, the new prep school will be founded on the same core principles as the current senior school: courage, excellence, perseverance and respect, and those values will underpin everything we do. As a prep school, we will benefit from the wonderful riverside site, and the refit planned for summer 2023 will provide us with more outstanding resources for an exceptional educational experience. Our children will also have the chance to progress directly into Kneller Hall School, the new Dukes senior school opening in Twickenham in September 2023.

I look forward to welcoming parents to Radnor in the autumn term. Meanwhile, please register your interest so that we can keep in touch and update you on our progress as we move towards an exciting new future.

Best wishes,

Stephanie Piper

About
Radnor House Prep School

Radnor House Prep School is a new independent co-educational day school, opening in September 2023.  The school will educate and inspire girls and boys from ages 2-11, with four main entry points in Nursery, Reception, Year 3 and Year 5. The school will enjoy a stunning location on the banks of the River Thames in Twickenham, which is currently home to Radnor House Twickenham senior school.

Life at Radnor House will be shaped by the school’s commitment to providing an active learning environment for limitless minds. Everyone firmly believes that all pupils are capable of great things if effectively taught, motivated and inspired by their school environment. Pupils will thrive in small classes with a strong focus on individual attention. This vision is underpinned by four key values which are central to school life:

Resilience – encouraging a sense of balance and humour in dealing with mishap and failure, and encouraging pupils to use difficulties as learning opportunities.

Respect – teaching children to listen to others, to value and understand difference, and to show a respect of themselves and others.

Reflection – showing pupils how to make good judgements, to review what they know and learn, to evaluate and analyse success and failure with a view to growing potential.

Resolve – enabling pupils to have the courage to take a chance, to face a challenge with confidence.

Radnor House Prep School will welcome girls and boys aged 2-11 from September 2023.

Devonshire House Preparatory School

Letter from the Head:

Devonshire House offers an intellectual, creative learning environment in which girls and boys of all character and learning profiles can thrive and maximise their potential.

We believe that parents shouldn’t have to choose between academically rigorous and pastorally nurturing schools: their children can have both at Devonshire House.

Strong core subject teaching is combined with a great breadth of study in specialist rooms and taught by expert teachers in their respective fields. A wide range of sports is on offer at our state-of-the-art facility and there is a keen focus on S.T.E.M, the creative arts, languages and the Humanities.

We encourage children to think critically by assimilating different perspectives with an open mindset, able to find nuanced positions as they wrestle with problems. We believe that learning and play represent a symbiotic relationship, one feeding the other.

Children learn as much from studying bugs in our wild area as they do in the classroom. The great outdoors are critical to a child’s development and at Devonshire House, we ensure that the children spend as much time outdoors as possible.

About
Devonshire House Preparatory School

Devonshire House provides an outstanding education from nursery age through to entry to Senior Schools. Its staff nurture and care for the children throughout their time at the School. Devonshire House has fine premises, with spacious grounds, two onsite AstroTurfs and walled gardens.

Children can join the School’s Nursery, The Oak Tree Nursery, (ages 2½ – 3½), in Pre-Reception or Reception and at later stages, where vacancies arise.

Devonshire House has exceptional results, including for Senior Schools and in their Scholarship examinations. The School has strong links with Senior Schools and ensures every family has good advice about their child’s next school.

Devonshire House is co-educational from 2-11 years at which time the girls take the 11+, while boys can continue the journey in preparation for the 13+.

“The Devonshire House gang are the brightest of buttons, bagging places at some of London’s most competitive senior schools. DH is spread over three Victorian redbricks just off Hampstead High Street, and there’s a cosmopolitan vibe to match – with lengthy waiting lists too. Energy is expended at Lords, the Saracens’ training ground or the much- envied running club on Hampstead Heath. Last year, they raised enough money to build a staff room for their link school in Rwanda. They’re chuffed with their Green Flag eco credentials too – so much so that there are plans for a Forest School. Last term’s performance of ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ was a total show stopper – and, yup, they had ‘real’ rain.”

About
The Kindergartens Nursery Schools

The Kindergartens is a group of nursery schools in central London which have been educating children aged 2 to 5 years for over 28 years. The Kindergartens are managed by Joanne Allen, the Principal of the group who has been working with the nurseries for over 20 years.

A passion for education and the happiness of the children in our care are at the heart of The Kindergartens. The curriculum is broadly based and encourages a wide range of interests and subjects which are integrated and child-centred.

Each session is planned to allow a child to explore all areas of the pre-school curriculum and prepare them for their future schooling.

Children are allocated to a group teacher. They follow a programme which leads them to work and explore individually and within a group.

Eaton House Schools

“Eaton House School was founded in 1897 and it is with great pride that I carry on this wonderful traditional education more than 125 years later.  Whilst the school has expanded across two sites in Clapham and Belgravia, and the education has become more rounded, interactive and high tech over  the years, the fundamental core ethos remains the same.

We aim to provide a first-class education, striving for excellence in all academic, cultural and sporting pursuits, giving every child the confidence to discover where their gifts lie and to enjoy their talents. Wellbeing is at the core of everything we do. We are non-selective at our 3+ and 4+ entry points, because we believe that children develop emotionally and academically at different paces and without the pressures of early exams. We also champion single-sex education, as we know from numerous studies that younger children learn best when alongside peers of the same gender.”

“Our results speak for themselves. Despite being non-selective our girls and boys obtain outstanding academic results and receive a wide range of scholarships to superb senior schools, including Westminster, St Paul’s School, Dulwich College, James Allen’s Girls’ School (JAGS), Winchester, Wycombe Abbey and Eton.

Alumni that have passed through Eaton House include former Prime Minister, Harold Macmillan, plus many great talents such as Laurence Olivier, Eddie Redmayne, Bear Grylls, Anthony Asquith and Philip Pullman. Our most important legacy, however, continues to be the many happy children who have discovered a love of learning at Eaton House Schools and go on to pass on their knowledge to many future generations.

We look forward to welcoming you soon!”

About
Eaton House Schools

Eaton House Schools share a common promise – the promise of an outstanding education for your child based on a 125 year heritage of academic excellence and founded on a caring culture of wellbeing that allows children to blossom both academically and emotionally on a non-selective entry at 4+.

Pupils in both Belgravia and Clapham receive a range of scholarships and attend many prestigious schools, including Westminster, St Paul’s School, Dulwich College, James Allen’s Girls’ School (JAGS), Charterhouse, Winchester, Wycombe Abbey and Eton.

We have an unashamedly aspirational culture –whether in academics, music, sport, drama or any other endeavour – where there is a place for every single child to shine. All Eaton House Schools’ children are immersed in a rich world of creativity, extra-curricular clubs, trips and value-added extras that are designed to support their learning and to help them to achieve their full potential.

Hampton Court House School

Hampton Court House is a place of magic, wonder and inspiration, where the children are at the heart of everything we do. As Head, I am unashamedly and unapologetically idealistic about the power of education to transform young people, and HCH is the perfect environment for this to happen. Walking through the gates at HCH transports our children to a special place where they can thrive and flourish, where they are respected and valued as independent and autonomous individuals, and where they are known and deeply cared for by every member of staff. Our children are empowered, enabled, and treasured.

Our ethos and vision focuses on sparking creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking through an exciting and progressive curriculum facilitated by passionate subject specialists who have chosen to teach because they love their subject and are lifelong learners in themselves, but also because they wish to share this knowledge with young people. As well as being a place that buzzes with scholarship and academic enquiry, we also celebrate experiential learning and all of the so-called ‘soft-skills’ learned through the performing and expressive arts, sport, and activities where our children can be challenged outside of their comfort zone, celebrated for their intrinsic passions and skills, and where they can learn so much about who they are and what makes them tick.

Most importantly, however, HCH prioritises the mental health and wellbeing of each and every member of our community; pastoral care is the golden thread that runs through everything we do. Our children are nourished and nurtured as we help them navigate their way through developing their sense of self. Our guiding principles are kindness, respect and compassion for others and this is reflected in our ‘inner curriculum’ based on empathy, emotional literacy, and emotional intelligence. We want our children to be happy, confident, and understand themselves, but also understand and care for those around them. It is this combination that will help them make the world a better place.

There are so many other attributes that make HCH such a special school, whether that is our French immersion programme and focus on languages, ballet provision, informal dress code, late Sixth Form start, or how all staff are referred to by their first name. Our beautiful buildings and garden provide our students with the physical space to run, play, imagine and enjoy the freedom and other wondrous aspects of being young. HCH is unique and distinct, and we are proud to be so because we know how motivating, inspiring and nurturing this is for the young people in our care and how it helps them achieve their highest potential.

I cannot wait to welcome you to the school so you can see the magic, vibrancy, and collective joy of HCH first-hand.

It is important to us that children enjoy being here and look forward to coming to school. We wish to lay the foundations of a lifelong love of learning.

We believe that children need some (guided) freedom in order to develop their own style with taste and discretion. Pupils and staff have mutual respect for each other. The staff, including the Principal, are addressed by their first names. Whilst there is a dress code, there is no uniform.

About
Hampton Court House School

Hampton Court House is an ‘all through’ school teaching pupils aged 2–18. Some students choose to move on after 11+ in Year 6 or through Common Entrance or Scholarship papers in Year 8. But most pupils elect to stay on to GCSE in Year 11 and A-levels in the sixth form.

The Nursery and Reception classes provide a highly stimulating and welcoming environment for children to learn through interaction with each other and adults. They learn through play with songs and games and through the enthusiasm of their teachers.

Children hear spoken French around them each day, which prepares them for the Lower Years (Years 1–4) which is a fully bilingual environment. After this, in Year 6, all pupils sit internal 11+ examinations, and 13+ examinations in Year 8 in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Geography, French, Spanish, Mandarin, and Latin. In the Upper Years, students will make their own decisions that will shape their future and can select specialisms from a wide range of subjects.

Hampton Court is a co-educational all-through school.

Riverside Nursery Schools

– A welcome from the Principal

“I am delighted to welcome you to Riverside Nursery Schools, a family of five unique and beautiful nurseries set in the London Borough of Richmond. We provide children with a beautifully crafted environment in which highly qualified educators motivate children to learn and become independent.

Via a bespoke and individualised education, delivered with nurturing, loving care, we encourage the growth of the whole child. This fosters independent thinking alongside the development of early years qualities and dispositions such as a child’s awareness of their environment, empathy for others, communication excellence, and above all, self-confidence.

As a group of nursery schools, we strive to instil within all our children the intellectual, emotional, and physical skills needed to become self-motivated learners, flexible thinkers, and creative problem solvers. At every opportunity, we support their natural and ever-increasing curiosity about the world in which they live.

We provide love and support to our children and their families. We relish the opportunity to get to know and understand every child whilst watching them thrive in our carefully prepared, warm, loving, environment. We look forward to seeing the children grow into successful, autonomous citizens of the world.

Please feel free to contact me personally with your questions or better still, organise a visit to any of our wonderful nursery schools.

I look forward to meeting you and your child and being alongside you at the start of their education.”
